The Half Cab emerged from street skateboarding culture when riders began modifying Steve Caballero's signature high-top Vans by removing the ankle collar and sealing the opening with duct tape. Recognizing this grassroots innovation, Caballero collaborated with Vans to create a purpose-built low-cut version that eliminated the ankle restriction without compromise. This streamlined silhouette became essential for modern street skating, offering the support and durability skaters demanded while accommodating the technical footwork required on concrete terrain.
